Depends on if you are doing paper invites or a digital evite/Facebook invite thing. You need more time if it’s going through the mail. Two weeks might be okay for evites and local guests. 
My aunt planned the date with my sister about 2 months in advance so my sister could buy a plane ticket. But the actual invites were mailed after that.
