Cervix behind baby's head?

I had my 36 week appt today and he checked my cervix. It's high and not dilated which I expected since I'm a FTM and haven't had any contractions yet. But he said the head is down and cervix is behind the head?? What does that mean?
Also, is there anything I can do to help soften cervix the next few weeks?

Sex definitely helped to soften my cervix starting at week 29 actually 😳 now I’m fully effaced and 1/2cm dilated at 36+5. I wasn’t necessarily trying for that, I just never lost my sex drive this pregnancy. But at this point I’m glad I didn’t for that reason !

I was told the same thing about my cervix, it makes getting checked a little more difficult and painful because it’s harder to find and get to because it is a posterior cervix as one of my drs residents said. But it has not prevented my cervix from dilating or effacing early on.

I was told that with my first pregnancy. Apparently your cervix needs to move forward and down in order to soften and dilate. All it means is that you aren't dilated or effaced and it could be a little while still.

Thanks for the info ladies!! We are going to have sex more this week, eat some dates, try to walk and hope cervix starts to soften a little!
