Being induced...?

Question

I have a lot of people telling me not to let the doctor induce me because it causes problems. No one has explained what these problems are or anything so I was just wondering what you momma's that have been induced can tell me about that. Where there actually problems? Would you do it again or wait?

I did it twice and I'm going to try n do it again never had any problems my kids both came out healthy

Some of the reasons that it's not advisable to get induced are that the baby usually knows best when it's ready to be born. Induction may force a baby out early because the due date may be off or the baby just isn't quite done being built. Also, if your body isn't ready to have the baby the induction might fail, or cause complications like "fetal distress", which can lead to c sections. The ACOG recommends that no one be induced non-medically before their due date, and there is no need to be induced simply for the baby being late (up to 42 weeks). Some of the induction methods can cause really strong/fast contractions that aren't effective. If there is a medical reason, induction might be the best choice (like if you have preeclampsia), but it can have some bad effects, too. Also, some people have doctors who say "I never let anyone go past 39 weeks or 40 weeks" and those doctors are just plain wrong.

I had people tell me not to get induced either. That it was just sooo much that happens with it. Even though I wanted everything to happen natural I still had to get induced at 41 weeks and 2 days. I also didn't want to get the epidural but the contractions were unbearable after being induce 4 hours later. But I never had problems with either process. Like others have said though everyone is different.

I was induced with both my pregnancies and had no problems, both were very easy for me. Both labors were 6 hours or less

I was induced because I had preeclampsia.  The induction didn't cause any issues.

I was induced with my son because I had too much water around him and I didn't have any problems either. I would like to go naturally this time but it was nice to know when I would deliver and prepare for it that way.

If you want a natural delivery than stay away from being induced as much as possible. When they induce you with pitocin it creates more intense contractions more quickly and can distress the baby. A distressed baby can lead to a c section. The intense contractions can also lead to a snowball effect of opting for more medication which can stall labor and that makes doctors worried. Obviously this isn't true in all cases but it's why many women try and stay away from it. Hope this helps :)

I had prepadil to "ripen" my cervix 3 days before my due date - no problems. 12 hours later I was having contractions.

I had my water broken 10 hours after that because I wasn't progressing - no problems.

I opted for an epidural and pitocin 2 hours after because I was getting legitimate contractions but still wasn't dilated enough. I again had no problems. My labor sped up and I was able to sleep a little too. 3 hours later I was pushing.
