How much breast milk should I be feeding my baby?
I’m going back to work in a couple of weeks (😭😭😭) and I stared pumping to build a small stash. I also wanted my daughter to get used to drinking from a bottle so I pump many times a day. I usually don’t have a lot of patience/time and pump for about 7 minutes. I know I should pump for a bit longer, but anyway, I usually get about 100- 120 ml (3-4 ounces).
When I feed my daughter the milk I pump, I also always offer the breast afterwards because I’m never sure if she’s had enough. She usually nurses for about 3 more minutes only, and then unlatches by herself. I assumed the amount I was pumping was enough but then our pediatrician told us she should be taking 240 ml 4x a day (so about double what I was giving her per feed). Granted she feeds about 5 times a day but I’m hoping to drop the last feed soon.
She started solids yesterday and honestly didn’t eat much at all so she’s pretty much going to be EBF when she starts daycare at the end of the month.
I wanted to know how much milk I should be giving her. I’m also worried I’m not producing enough (although my daughter is definitely eating enough -she’s gaining weight and has the chubbiest cheeks!). I don’t know if I should be getting much more milk when I pump or if it’s just that I’m not pumping for long enough. I was super confident about breastfeeding until the pediatrician said she should be getting double the amount I’m pumping 😔😔😔
How much are you guys feeding your babies? I’ve read so many different things about this. Thanks for your help!
