Delivery room disaster 😱

Rachael

There’s a bit of a story here so I’m sorry for the long post!

I hit my due date on September 4th and about half way through the day I realized that the baby hadn’t moved since dinner the night before (I was exhausted from lack of sleep, being pregnant and having an ā€œon the goā€ 7 year old) so I told my husband and we loaded up and went to the emergency room. They found his heartbeat right away but said my blood pressure was boarder line high and I was dilated to 2 cm so my dr was going to admit me and induce labor around midnight! So here I am processing love to this nurse that about to end her shift for giving me this news, of course I’m ugly crying because I’m about to meet my son and the pregnancy was almost over, just a little longer. So I get taken to my room and set up. Around 1 am they come in get my iv put in and fluids hooked up. We start a medicine to make sure my cervix was thinned fully and then around 7-8 am I would start pitocin. Well my dr came in talked to me for a few mins around 8 am and we got everything started, it took about 2 hours to get to 8 cm and that’s where shit got real. I had dilated just fine but the way my son was descending was his head was at an angle and causing my cervix to swell and stop me from dilating to 10 cm, not only that but he was putting a ton of pressure on nerves in my back that the epidural didn’t numb. So I’m laying in the hospital bed in some of the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt and they refuse to up the medicine in the epidural, mind you I could still get up and walk at this point 4 hours in. So they give some other pain medicine and that doesn’t touch anything. The third time my nurse tells me ā€œYou’re doing great, just a little longerā€ I look at my husband and tell him to forget the nurse and find my dr. So my dr comes in checks my cervix and tells them to prep me for OR. My husband text my MIL (who was supposed to be in the room with us during the delivery) at 11:53 am and by 12:08 pm our son was born. My husband barely made it in before they pulled him out and I could still feel all the pain in my back during the emergency c-section. The spinal block number everything but the nerve pain and the other medicine that makes you feel really drunk just numbed my upper body. I can remember 4 specific things from the OR that day, 1 the dr telling someone to clamp an artery, 2 ā€œholy cow, he’s bigger than we expected, 3 seeing my sweet baby’s face for the first time as 4 my husband saying ā€œwow, babe he is huge!ā€ My little man was born 13 mins after my dr said to prep me for the OR weighing 8 lbs 3 oz, and measuring 19 3/4 inches long. I am 5’3ā€ and 100lbs at normal weight and gained over 40 lbs with him. Being the youngest and only boy of now 4 kids we welcomed Declan Sean on September 5th and couldn’t be more in love with our family. 🄰
