Can gay people go to prom as couples?

Last year, when I was a senior, my high school came out and said that no one could take a date of the same sex to prom. You had to sign up separately and not get the "couple discount". What are people's thoughts on this? Do you think it's okay for gay people to take their SOs to prom?

I think it's deplorable that the school gets to openly discriminate against its LGBQTIA+ students. The administrators responsible for this policy should be ashamed of themselves for creating such a hostile environment for their students. 
The students should have every right to go to the prom with whomever they would like to bring as their date.

When I was in high school I went to prom with my best friend, Bre.  We are both females and I had the principal pull me out of class to tell me we couldn't go together.  Needless to say, I threw a fit from hell and we did go to prom together.  Neither of us were lesbian we just had two boyfriends who didn't want to go.  Everyone should be allowed to go

I mean why not? It's already legal in the whole country to get married.. 
If it's not a private like Christian school or something I don't see why not .. They want to take God out of everything anyway

That's very sad and rude. You should be able to go with whoever you'd like too. Whether its two girl, two guys, or guy and girl. Its prom it happens once. You should be able to have that night as one you won't forget and not have to feel ashamed...

I didn't go to regular prom, I've only gone to queer prom.

Either way, it's absolutely ass backwards for a school to attempt to limit a prom like that. Not to mention its discrimination

That is strange. Is it a public high school? I would bring it up to the principal if that's the case. I don't think they are allowed to discriminate about the sex of the couple. They are allowed to say they have to be under 21 I believe. If it's a private high school though they can make whatever rules they want
