Am I wrong?

Question

So I just had a baby a couple weeks ago and before she was born my husband and I discussed that I would stay home with her so we didn’t have to put her in daycare. Anyway obviously he understood that would mean him helping me pay for things and etc with me having no income but I feel like he really hasn’t been any help with that and today I was complaining about not having any help and told him that yes I’d rather go back to work so I can pay for things than stay at home and not be able to afford anything, something as simple as having groceries in the house.. like am I wrong? Why should I have to struggle enough already being home with a newborn (don’t get me wrong I’m grateful) but at the same time financially and have that stress me out because I’m not getting any help. I don’t get it.

Have you joined your finances? You say he’s your husband. Does he just have a low income?
My husband is a carpenter’s apprentice with the salary to match! I emigrated to his country and don’t speak the language well enough to get skilled work yet. Plus I’ve had HG, had a horrible experience with my last employer (I was just housekeeping) after I told them I was pregnant, and now I’m on bed rest with excruciating PGP, so I can’t/don’t work right now. I’m 23w with our first. 
On top of that we recently bought property but it needs renovating before we can move in. So right now we’re living in a caravan in the garden of that property. It’s a broken down barn with no water connection, so we have that added obstacle too. We have a compost toilet outside and we have to collect water either from a camping ground or buy it in bulk bottles from the supermarket. When we want to shower, we either have to just flannel ourselves with the water we have, or we need to drive to a public shower place. We use a kind neighbour’s washing machine for our laundry. 
So, right now, we’re pretty poor! But my husband gives everything he possibly can. We’re not accepting government support, we’ve just adjusted our lifestyle to what we can afford. Baby will live in the caravan with use until we can afford the barn renovations. We’ve just made every single economy that’s humanly possible. 
I realise our situation might sound horrific but, actually, we’re in a good marriage and we see how we’re on the right path to a better future. That’s all you really need. Our barn is huge there’ll be plenty of room when we get there! And we always make sure there’s enough for us to afford a date night once in a while. 
I don’t know if any of this will help you but I just wanted to let you know anything is possible!!
