No allowed to hear baby’s heartbeat?

So I just had an ultrasound (I’m 8 weeks today) and I asked to hear the heartbeat but she told me since it’s so early they recommend not doing that. But I’ve seen and talked to so many woman who heard the heartbeat by now and wondering why they didn’t let me? Is that normal or is it dependent on the doctor?

My dr didn’t at 10 weeks either. She let us see it on the ultrasound though which made us feel a lot better

It’s just your doctors protocols. Mine is the same. I had an appointment at 10 weeks and they wouldn’t turn the sound on we could only see it flickering on the ultrasound. They won’t turn the sound on until the 20 week scan. You get to hear it on the Doppler though. I had an ultrasound with my high risk doctor at 12 weeks and got to hear it so if you have another one maybe you will but not likely. It’s normal though.

It’s normal not all places do it with my first I found out at 8 weeks had an ultrasound from a place outside of the doctors office I was able to see the heartbeating but she wouldn’t let me hear it. With my second I didn’t have an ultrasound and they don’t use Doppler’s until 12 plus weeks so I didn’t hear my sons heartbeat until about 15 weeks.

My doctors have never let me hear the heartbeat that early and I don’t ask because I understand that it’s early. However they do show me the heartbeat on the ultrasound. They don’t start letting us hear them until 12 weeks.

Mine let's you, but I can somewhat understand why they don't. I had a missed miscarriage post heartbeat at 9 weeks and the fact that I had heard the heartbeat a couple weeks prior may have made the grief worse. However, at the end of the day I think they should allow us to make adult decisions, including if we want to hear it despite there still being a risk of loss.

Usually you just see the heartbeat at that point. Everyone’s doctor is different, I’d be glad if my doctor was on the cautious side.

They couldn’t hear my baby’s heartbeat until around 12 weeks because my uterus was tilted backwards and they basically said that they usually don’t try earlier than that because they can’t always find it and that causes a lot of stress on the mom
