Anyone considering not having a big 1st birthday party for their LO?

I know it sounds nuts but we're considering just having a birthday celebration for our son with my husband, myself and our son. The reason being is the whole family dislikes one another, which should not affect a child clearley. I just don't want to have all that hate in one place around our son and feel it would be much more pleasant to not invite everyone. Also may I mention that no one has shown much care for him since we have had him, and the ones that have live very far away. My husband and I agree and are thinking about buying him a beautiful custom toy box, taking him to an aquarium, and having photos done with the money we would have spent on a big party. We still want to do his smash cake etc, just a private little celebration.

I don’t have any family close to me, they are on the other side of the planet 🌎, so I’m doing a small birthday party at my house, just for very close and lovely friends. All that people that I know, but never came to visit my daughter, won’t be invited, only good vibes people will be here ☺️

I am right there with you. And so are a lot of mamas I talk to about this. They say the only reason they had 1st bday parties was because they felt pressured into it. Or like they have to. We are probably just doing a photoshoot and maybe a very small bday party with a few family members

At this age big parties are for the parents not the kids. We never do big first or 2nd bday parties

I’m with you! We had a small family party earlier this month with our family on the east coast since we won’t be with them in November. We do have family to celebrate with here in Arizona but they don’t get along or they haven’t tried all that hard to see him since he was born. I told my husband I want to put the party fund in a savings account for my son. We’ll still have a little cake and do something special for the baby, just us three 🥰

Our will just be our immediate family...i spent 5 bucks on decorations off fb market, will make my own cake and small one for him(as less sugar as i can do it) and bought  a 10$ gift from a giant consignment sale they do twice a year in my city...i am all for being wise with my money and enjoy a smaller moment where we can rly be a family...do what works best for you ❤🥰

I am not having a party for my sons 1st birthday. Family can pop over the weekend before and after with presents and to see him. I will make a small birthday cake and may take him to soft play on his birthday.

I personally don't want to have a big party for a first birthday. He will probably be happier hanging out with us and getting cool stuff. The party is for the adults in my opinion. Our closest family lives over 100 miles away, and most of them are across the country around 3000 miles away. So anything we do will end up just being with our friends, most of whom don't have kids. 
I'm going to save my energy for the birthdays he's going to remember.

small party here! just our immediate family and i’m still not going all out with decorations or anything. Just a few. I would rather save the money for when she will remember or just put it in her savings account. I am doing her photo shoot too so save money

With this scenario, I definitely would do what you’re doing... definitely don’t want negativity around the baby on his special day; I believe it should be spent only with those who truly care about baby and you as parents.... what you have planned sounds perfect and a great memory on a very special day ❤️❤️❤️
