Iron supplement for EBF baby?

My pediatrician told me to start iron supplements for my EBF.  Said to use the poly-vi-sol with iron. I haven’t done this yet. I didn’t do it with my first. She was getting maybe a bottle of formula a day at this stage, but that’s it. Wondering if any other breastfeeding mom’s have been told this or done this? And if you’ve done it, what did you use?

I EBF and use the poly-vi-sol with iron. I give her a syringe full before bed. Did it with my first as well, until about one year I believe. Dr. recommendation, so why not, I suppose. 🤷‍♀️ neither of my babies had adverse reactions. I don’t fret if I miss a day (or two) every now and then.

After 4-6 months Baby’s iron needs tend to go up and breast milk is low in iron. That’s prob why she said to go ahead and add a supplement to make sure your baby is getting enough! It’s a big reason they push the iron fortified oatmeal cereals. Honestly prob not necessary even at 6 months if you baby is eating lots of iron rich foods, but if not you can always add a supplement to the food your feeding! I used this for my son for a bit just as he was turning one, but it’s gross and he would only take it in apple sauce or something like that!

Are you getting enough iron? I would think baby gets enough from your milk if you’re getting enough in. I take an iron supplement.
