Brown discharge

So I have not had a period since my son was born. 8 months pp now. Did yall get brown discharge before your first period? I know it’s either my period coming or I’m pregnant. Either way I’m fine just want to see what the common response was. If I am pregnant, do you think it would be too early to test? I took a test on Friday and it was negative (was really nauseous but ended up either having food poisoning or a stomach bug because i threw up a few times). I just don’t know when I’d be due for a period since I haven’t had one yet!! Any thoughts?
