SF Residents place boulders on street to stop homeless
Hi, i’ve never posted in the CC before, but this got me super riled up this morning.
A group of neighbors in the mission in San Francisco put “a few hundred each” into a fund to buy 2 dozen BOULDERS to put on their street to stop homeless people sleeping there.

This is a strategy that has been used by San Francisco and neighboring cities before

i believe that this money could absolutely be better spent building shelters or rehabilitation clinics, as all this does is move people to another street, but the residents dont want that either it seems

* the last article i read said they reached their goal of 100k
What are everyone’s thoughts on this? do you think the people had a right to put them in if the city “isnt doing enough” for them? San Francisco has a huge homelessness problem, in large part because of skyrocketing rents. A lot of houseless people in SF have been there long before the millionaires moving in. Another controversial thing in SF are needle exchanges and safe injection sites, which i believe keep HIV rates low, and keep drug users from “shooting up on the streets” as people describe in the article, but these safety measures are opposed by the same people who are against homeless shelters.
Here are some more pics of ways the city stops houseless people sleeping on benches/sidewalks, called “hostile architecture/design”

(this one is also for skateboarders)

these “arm rests” on benches are super common

and my personal favorites (11-40% homeless youths are LGBT and have been kicked out of their family home):

(sources: Fox news, mission local, the guardian, etc) sorry if this is too long
EDIT: forgot to add, the city says its fine they put the boulders there and doesnt plan on moving them
