I need help!!!!!

I used to have my periods for seven days when I first started. Well I'm 17 now about to turn 18 nov. 1st. I have had one cycle lasting a month and I'm on my period now and I'm on day 8. My parents don't want me on birth control because the say we are basically giving her permission to do IT! So that's a no on bc. Is the period I'm on right now going to last a month too? Is this normal? I don't know what to do, please help!
