October baby turned September baby!
As I sit here breastfeeding my beautiful baby girl i get the chance to write out my birth story!
The morning of September 24 I started having regular contractions around 9am lasting in frequency anywhere between 2 minutes to 10 minutes. I kept monitoring them for 3 hours and decided to call my doctor around 12:30. She told me to come in and get checked since my contractions were pretty regular for a while. 1:00 I get to my doctor and am checked: 3cm dilated, 70% effaced, and at a -2 station. She wanted me to stick around the hospital and go walk for an hour to see if my contractions would come every 2-5 minutes. An hour passed by and sure enough my contractions are now every 2-5 minutes. My doctor checks my cervix again and she says I haven’t progressed but my blood pressure went up and decided I should get admitted anyways. I get admitted around 2:30pm. 3:30 rolls around and I get checked again, tight 4cm 80% effaced, -2 station. My doctor was almost done with her shift and wasn’t going to be on call so she suggested breaking my water to get things rolling. We broke my water around 4pm and holy cow contractions picked up and they were much more painful than before. 5:00 rolls around and I decide to get into the tub to labor which helped me relax for a while. 6:15 and my contractions become unbearable so I ask for the epidural. 6:30pm epidural is administered during some of the worst contractions so I hardly felt the needle going into my back. By 6:45pm I had sweet sweet relief and could finally relax. I got rechecked at 6:45 and I’m now at 5cm, still 80% effaced and -1 station. The nurse said she could feel baby’s head and that she had a lot of hair!! We got really excited. I stayed at 5cm for a while so at 8:05pm they check again I’m almost to a 6cm so they decided to start pitocin to get things moving. The epidural made me super itchy so I got administered Benadryl around 8:45pm and was quickly asleep. My body needed the rest so bad and the Benadryl helped make that happen. They came in to check me again at 10:30, doctor looks and sees her head already crowning. I had no idea!! She woke me up and immediately said “you ready to have a baby?!” It took me a moment and I responded “wait, what?!” We waited until 11:00 to start practice pushing. 12 pushes later at 11:31 my beautiful baby girl came into the world!! She shares a birthday with my big brother who passed away 6 years ago. Her guardian angel made sure they would share a birthday. The best blessing and greatest gift. My blood pressure was only raised that one time in the doctors office and hasn’t risen since.
If you made it this far thanks for reading!! Here’s a picture of my beautiful girl.
