Xbox question

So I’m gonna start off by saying my WiFi is pretty cheap and it took almost 2 days to download a game my boyfriend bought off the Xbox store.

So his birthday is on Wednesday and I bought him madden 20. We’ll both be off and I know he’d love to get to play the game on his birthday so my question is do you still have to download games if you bought the game with the disc and everything or is it ready to play after putting it in the Xbox? I’m debating on if I should give it to him early so that it can download in time for him to get to enjoy it on his birthday.
