Day 1 potty training

So my LO is 2.5 today and we have initiated day 1 of potty training. He has already gone potty on his own the first time but he was screaming and crying sitting on the potty because he wants his diaper. After he was done I gave him some candy (sixlets cause they are small and not filling) I'm not planning on giving him candy every time we have healthy snacks he loves as well. I'm just wondering if anyone else has some tips on potty training boys. I have only ever potty trained girls 😂. I'm a single mom so no men to really show him the standing method. Do those "targets" work for potty training or are they more of a hassle?
