Is it true that your first positive on opk is the one you ovulate on and all others are just surges? TIA

Answer

Opks are just a stick that can detect the luteinizing hormone in your urine. LH is sent from the pituitary gland to the ovaries as a signal to ovulate. However a lot goes into ovulation, such as estrogen, FSH etc. they all have their own little roles in developing follicles, releasing egg, maturing the eggs etc. you can have a LH surge and no estrogen meaning you’re not going to ovulate but the opk still says yes you are because it only detects ONE hormone out of many needed to ovulate. 
even if you get a positive opk doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to ovulate, temping is more accurate but the only true was is blood work. 
Usually, when a opk is dark or darker than the control line it means the LH is at its highest peak and around 12-36 hours you could ovulate. But again, a lot goes into ovulation so it’s not a 100% you’re going to.

From what I understand your first OPK means that you will ovulate 12-36hrs after that.
