Can I use a nipple shield to teach my baby to latch?

Question

My son will be 3 weeks old soon, and he latches amazingly on my left breast. On my right, however, he can't get a deep latch and he chomps. This is so painful. I'm nursing him without a nipple shield on the left, and just tried a shield on the right. He's able to latch great and there's no pain. Can I use this for a day or two to get him comfortable with latching to my right without it effecting my supply?

Yes, use them! That's the only reason I was able to keep breastfeeding. My daughter had a horrible, shallow latch that was causing me so much pain. I was crying every time she latched on. Finally got some shields and it made a huge difference. 
She was definitely getting enough and it didn't impact my supply. I recommend the silicone kind because they're thin enough that they don't reduce your bodies ability to tell baby is latching. 
Somewhere around 4 months we were finally able to stop using them. We tried every few weeks to get her to latch without them and it never worked u till I couldn't clean them one time because we were on vacation so i tried latching her on without and she did great and we never looked back...made it to one year of breastfeeding all thanks to those things!

I’ve had to use nipple shields since my baby girl was born. 2 months and it hasn’t affected my supply at all

My daughter is 5 weeks old and we've been using nipple shields since day 1  and we are going to try to wean her off them once she is a little stronger.  Definitely doesn't affect supply. I have heaps!
