what age did your children start doing their own wash?

my best friends family has a household with a 19 year old, a 18 year old, and a 14 year old and none of them still do their own wash... i was just wondering if that’s unusual?

I was doing my own laundry at around 15/16 years old. I have an 11 year old so he doesn’t do his own laundry yet. I wash/dry his clothes but I do make him fold/hang his own clothes.

My kids don't, but they're all 9 and under. I don't see myself making them do their own laundry as long as they live here. I don't think I'd mind doing it even when they're 18/19. But I guess we'll see, I may have a meltdown by then 😂

I don’t have kids but growing up my mom always just did the laundry for everyone no matter how old because it was just easier and less wasteful to wash everything together, but when it was done we would fold and put away all of our own clothes. Once my brother and I go older and especially after going to college if we were ever home we’d typically do our own loads of laundry but my mom would probably still do it for us if I asked her to throw my clothes in when she was washing her and my dads

I started doing my own wash once I left for college. When I moved back home I continued to do my own clothes as well. But growing up my parents always took me along to learn I would start slow just watching, then that evolved to me getting the quarters and putting them in, that turned to me learning how to put in the soaps and one day after countless trips to the laundry my parents sent me alone to wash for the house I was maybe 14 or so and it was a place around the corner. They would send me every blue moon. It was apart of the Saturday chores I could clean my room And do laundry or clean my room and clean the bathroom or the kitchen etc. so we all took turns going to wash the clothes once my siblings and I were old enough but it was never expected of us to wash our own separately. Even when I moved back home at 21 it was my decision to do my own clothes my mother was fine with me getting it washed with theirs but it was understood we’d all take turns washing if that was the case.

i never did when i was at my prents house 🤷🏻‍♀️ we all just put our washing in one basket. i guess i folded it and sorted it afterwards sometimes or when i really had to i did, but it takes like 5 seconds to put a wash on

I taught my son when he was 12 but we lived in apartments and used public washing machines so I’d throw everything in together. At our home, he does his own laundry. He was 13 when he’d wash, fold, and put it all away himself.

I started washing my own clothes around middle school. I think it's a good skill to learn and when you need certain clothes washed, you can do it yourself and not have to wait for whenever mom/dad

18,19 is definitely a bit old to not be doing their own laundry. But no judgment because sometimes my mom or grandmother may come to my house and do laundry and I’m 27
