10/5/2019 Suprising FTM Labor

Nora

So last night around 10-10:30 I noticed I was getting fairly wet but I decided to sleep on it so I put a pad in overnight. I woke up this morning fairly wet, so I proceeded to make breakfast and eat then call my midwife. By the time they told me to come in it was around 11am and I calmly got to the hospital assuming that my water wasn’t leaking and I was just going to get sent home. I arrive at the hospital and am checked into L&D around 11:30 where they run some tests and tell my that my membrane is intact ruptured.

At this point I’m mostly just surprised at the fact this is actually happening since my due date is October 25th. They go ahead and break my bag of water, since it was only a small leak, to try and get things going. While doing this they also try to get an IV going. After 3 failed IVs they decide to stick it in my elbow and get a very light dose of Pitocin going. Man this is where it got bad. I was so nervous I would have these contractions for the next 17 hours. After 1.5 hours I finally ask my midwife when I was going to get off the Pitocin so she decided to check me. I was already completely dilated and ready to push. I wanted a water birth so they drag the tub in and start filling it as I start pushing in the bed. After about 20 min of pushing the tub is filled and I waddle over. I’m not sure in total how long I pushed for but it was definitely less than 45 min which surprised everyone in the room as a FTM. So 2.5 hours after leisurely making my way into the hospital I got to hold my baby.

Her name is Julia Violet and she weighed a whole 6 lbs and 3 oz and is the smallest most precious thing I’ve ever seen!
