Do I need a pack and play?

I already have a crib, and baby will be sleeping in the bassinet next to my bed. Is it necessary

For us yes, we have used our pack and play nearly daily for two years. 
The baby will grow out of the bassinet by 3 months or so, so if you want to have your baby in your room with you longer than that (the AAP recommends 6 months minimum and WHO says a year) then you’ll need a pack n play. 
Also they’re incredibly useful when you travel or are just visiting friends or family during nap time. We just stick our daughter in a quiet bedroom with a travel baby monitor and a noise machine app on our phone and we’re able to continue enjoying ourselves rather than going home for nap time. It lets us continue living our social life much like we did before having kids... staying home all the time becomes incredibly isolating so quickly. We also travel a lot and use it overnight then.
We also used it as a playpen for her when she was little 9-15 months or so. Sometimes I would drag it into the bathroom so she could safely play while I shower, etc. Now, at almost two, we use it as timeout when she’s misbehaving, since she’s too young to sit still somewhere yet. She still uses it to sleep in at night too when we travel (we used it for a lake trip this past weekend in fact). 
You can get a new one for about $65 if you keep an eye out for sales, so to me, they’re worth every penny times 100.

I didn’t even put one on my registry but my MIL got me one anyways....I freaking love it. I said I would never use it really but it is one of the most used things in the entire house lol. It’s in the living room because her bassinet (which she hated and only slept in it for 2 weeks) was in our room and crib in her nursery. But she sleeps in the pack I’m okay during the day in the living room and mine has a huge square that cones out of it that she now sleeps in at night as well. Get one if only for the living room area where your going to spend most of your time. She plays in it, gets changed in it, and sleeps in it. Anytime we know we will be gone for a good couple of hours we take the square with us for her to have a place to sleep, so you don’t even have to take the entire thing.

I still need to get one because I do think I’ll use it when she outgrows her bassinet, because I don’t think she’ll be ready to be alone in her bedroom for a good while, especially when she needs to eat every 3 hours at night. No way I’m gong across the house to her bedroom all night every time she’s hungry.

Yes my baby hated the bassinet and even if he hadn’t he would’ve grown out of it before the 6 month mark

I have one but rarely use it. My mom has one at her house, my mil has one at her house, and it’s rare when we go out of town. We have literally only used it when going out of town and that’s. Been maybe for a total of 3-5 nights and she’s over a year old. 
The one thing I did get was a pack and play mattress and I think that is worth it if you have one. When we go to my mil’s we always bring it and it significantly helps my daughter sleep better.

We have a bassinet, a mini crib, a play pen at grandma's and this. We go camping so this is nice for that, but we take the play pen for sleep. We have a 20mo and a 3 week old. We use all of them almost daily... it really depends on your lifestyle. This playyard has a canopy that attaches to the top and is good for when its super sunny. We took it to the lake too... 😁
