Confused period

Wo normally my period starts slowly. I get a little spotting then the next day I am heavy by the 4th day I start to lighten again. This month the first day I spent 45 min in the bathroom bleeding and crying from the pain( no clots or anything like that passed). I do have painful periods but nothing that painful. I flowed heavy for maybe 48 hours then stopped for 10 -12 hours then spotted for half the day maybe a little longer (honestly I didnt take the pad off till the next day just to be safe). I was off for 3 days and yesterday I come home from an appointment and am bleeding again it lasts maybe an hour. Each time its red and normal color. I am so lost as to what is going on.
