Gay friend purposely hitting on straight men

So a friend whose gay is purposely hitting on straight men. His reason is hoping that they’d be interested. I’m trying to help him stay positive on finding love but he’s going after straight guys instead of the gay or bisexual guys. He said he tried hitting on this straight guy at work and that he knew the guy wasn’t gay. I know people say you can’t turn a straight person gay so should he stop trying to “turn them gay” as he puts it. I suggested he could meet guys online or a gay club. I just don’t know how to help him. He is basing his happiness off of people loving him.
