What do you do?

Parents with more than one kiddo how do you go about putting your kids in the car and taking them out? Super random question but I got yelled at by an older lady. When we were coming out of the store I put my 5 year old in the car first while my 5 month old was in her car seat in the shopping cart. Some lady said how I should never leave my baby like that that I should be putting her in first.  I never thought about it but I guess I always did it that way so my 5 year old wouldn't run around while I was loading my 5 month old in the car. What do you do?

I have a 3 year old and a 16 month old. My oldest walks to the car with me, I open the door and he climbs into his car seat. Then I close the door (he stays unbuckled in the seat), walk around the car and buckle my youngest in, walk back around and buckle oldest in. At this age it would be difficult for him to open the car door from his seat so I don’t worry about him as long as he is in the car and the door is shut while I buckle the baby in.

Older one gets in while I’m holding onto baby...I don’t trust anyone for a second and someone could easily grab the stroller or cart and take off. So the 5 year old gets in and stays unbuckled until I secure the baby, then if she hasn’t buckled herself by the time I’m done, I’ll buckle her in :)

Whatever works for you! Sometimes it’s infant sometimes it’s toddler. Just depends where we are and what’s around us.

My step son (4) always requests to climb through his brothers side. So he goes in that door, I buckle the 6 months old seat in, then I go around and do the older child's straps. Even getting out, I can reach around and unbuckle the older one from the driver's seat, so he climbs out of his brothers side when I open that door and take the carseat out lol.

Older one gets in first bc every now and then she’s wild and will run out in front of cars. When the baby is in an infant seat, I make the oldest climb over before I click the baby in. That way only 1 door is open. Now I either put the oldest in unbuckled and then do the baby or she climbs through the trunk (van with seats down) to her seat, handle baby, the finish her.

I am usually wearing my 1 month old in a wrap or carrier, so I don't have to worry about leaving him alone in the shopping cart or wherever by himself since he's strapped to me. I open the door to let my 3 year old climb in because she can get in her seat and buckle her own chest clip. I go around, buckle in baby, then go back around and buckle the bottom for my toddler and tighten her straps and we're good to go.
