Canesten for thrush?

I phoned midwife and described my symptoms, she said it's probably thrush and to go to the chemist and get Canesten but she said they would probably not give it to me when pregnant and to send someone else. She said it's completely safe in pregnancy but that the pharmacy will not give it without a prescription when pregnant.

I'm a bit worried about using it, has anyone else here used it in pregnancy?

Currently 39 weeks.
