Is it normal to not feel a bond with newborn?

I’m 2 weeks pp I don’t feel anything when I look at her I don’t feel like I’m a mother, I don’t feel depressed or anything and I do take care of her. I don’t know if it’s because I’m going through a breakup/ because i had a hard labour and after pains or if it’s not normal

I chose not to vote yes or no, because I feel like it's not so cut and dry. I have heard/know of women who felt the same and the bond grew over time and it wasn't just something that was there immediately. IMO as long as your baby is taken care of and your taking care of yourself everything will fall into place
.. like you said you're going thru a lot. Keep an eye on PPD as I had it with my son and it's no joke.

Not every one feels an immediate connection. You'll get there. As you said you're going through some stuff which could be distracting you. Also newborns are hard work and you're probably emotionally exhausted. Don't worry about it. Just keep up the good work providing for your baby and the bond will come ❤️

It took me a few weeks and I definitely did not have PPD. I loved her but I didn’t have the insane wave of love everyone told me I would have. After a few weeks it all clicked and now shes 8 months old and I’m obsessed with her.

It's not "normal" in the sense that it's not the norm, not what most mothers feel. But it's "normal" in the sense that it happens. PP depression doesn't necessarily mean that you feel depressed, it affects women in different ways. Not feeling a bond to your child though is one of the main symptoms, so it would definitely be advisable to speak to a professional.

The best advice someone gave me prior to having our baby (which when I heard this I literally thought my co-worker was insane) he said “you’re bringing in a stranger to your established home.. just as you would get a roommate, or bring in someone to your family it takes time to love them” I never understood until we brought her home. Of COURSE I love my child, but I didn’t have that “in love” feeling. Our relationship (like any relationship) takes time to grow, flourish and love.

I didn’t feel a strong bond to my first baby for the first few weeks after she was born. I felt really guilty about it. Looking back, I think it was because we had such a hard time figuring out breastfeeding and I had a lot of unrealistic expectations about motherhood. By the time she was 2 months old, I felt a much stronger bond with her. 
With my second baby (who is 5 weeks today), I felt an immediate and strong bond with her. Again, I think it’s partially because I knew what to expect and didn’t allow the postpartum struggles to get between us.

I struggled really badly with bonding with my daughter. I had really bad ppd but i didnt think I had it until i went and talked with my doctor. After about a month of having her was when we started actually bonding and now two years later she is hands down my best friend! We do everything together. Remember after having a baby its a big adjustment, but if things dont feel like they are getting better I would talk with your dr.

Normal. I felt like a babysitter the few few months, not entirely like I was her mother. It changes, my 2.5 year old is my obsession, never felt this love before. It started when she began to respond to me with smiles, coos, etc.
