30 hour labor and traumatic c section (long story)
My water broke at 4am on 10/12/19. By the time we got to the hospital it was 5:30am and I was admitted right away. I didn’t have any contractions until about 30 mins after we got to the hospital and they were very minor, more like period cramps. One of the midwives did a cervical check and I was only .5 cm dilated, I was having some back labor so she did a quick ultrasound and we noticed the baby was sunny side up. Me and the nurses did a lot of exercises for the next few hours to try and get him to roll over. The next few hours were fine, I was able to breath through all the contractions. Around 4pm they checked me again and I had only dilated to 1cm so they decided to put me on pitocin to get things going. Around 7pm the contractions were 1 minute apart and painful but I had only dilated to 3cm. I decided to get the nubain shot, I was trying not to get the epidural cause I didn’t want it to slow things down. This was great and I was able to get some sleep. However around 10:30pm I was woken up by a rush of nurses and doctors because the baby’s heart rate had dropped too low, the inserted an internal monitor. I still hadn’t dilated past 3cm. After that my contractions were making me extremely uncomfortable and I opted in for the epidural. This was the best decision I could’ve made. I was finally able to get sleep. I woke up around 4:30am (next day) to intense pressure, but not pain. They checked me and I was at 8cm (FINALLY) so I upped my epidural and went back to sleep. At 6am I woke up to unbearable pressure and they told me I was at 10cm,
So we started to push. I pushed for 4 1/2 hours. I was able to get the baby to crown but he had flipped back to sunny side up so he could only go past a certain point of my pelvis. After 4 hours of pushing we tried to use the vacuum but failed 3 attempts. So at 10:12am it was determined that we had to have an emergency c-section. I was extremely upset about this. In the OR they asked if I was numb and able to feel my belly or legs, I said no, but as soon as they cut me open I could feel EVERYTHING. I screamed in agony telling them to stop I could feel it and they kept going. The anesthesiologists pushed more epidural and it did nothing. I was screaming bloody murder grabbing onto IV poles, my boyfriend, pretty much doing everything I could to get off the table...but they kept going. I literally felt them inside of me pulling out my son. It wasn’t until my son was out that they gave me anesthesia to knock me out. It was the worst experience of my entire life, I’m upset because the labor part was going so well and in a matter of 20 minutes my whole experience was ruined. But I now have a beautiful healthy baby boy.
At 10:29am on 10/13/19 my beautiful baby boy was born ❤️
