What is your opinion on water birthing? I keep going back and forth about which I would prefer. Has anyone had any experience with this? Pros! Cons?

I can't recommend water births enough! Had them with my last two babies, helped with pain relief and also helped to prevent tearing and grazing, loved it and will do it again this time around!

My water broke at 4 AM and active labor started around noon. We were a little concerned that active labor wasn't kicking in so we drove to our chiropractor. No joke, he had just finished adjusting me and before I even got off the table, I had one hard, long contraction. Labor picked up quickly and by about 2-3 PM I was 100% effaced and 4-5 CM. Labor slowed a little and got really difficult. I was having wretched back labor at this point and had so little amniotic fluid that you could actually see my son's body against my flattening tummy. I got into the tub around 6:30 and hit transition around 7. Transition was rough, too. I nearly puked all over my poor hubby. The water helped a great deal. I really think I would've labored much longer had it not been for the relief the water provided. I continued to dilate and was probably fully dilated around 8:30 ish, but didn't feel a strong urge to push. I started pushing around 9:20 ish. At that point, my contractions came every 5-7 min, but lasted for about 2 min. Whereas, active labor and transition, my contractions were about 2-3 min apart and lasting around 60-75 sec. I only really pushed a few times, apparently my body had been pushing on its own. Baby boy was born easily into the water. Hubby had to catch him because I was just sitting there staring at babe like a zombie. I literally just froze when he came out, haha. I was able to get out to birth the placenta - started getting chilly. They examined me quickly - small scratch on my labia. I barely bled at all. Babe was passed around the room while I finished up, showered, and peed. And then I ate a ginormous sandwich, with cheesy French fries and a milk shake. We all sat on our comfy bed while the midwives examined baby. That was precious! Midwives stayed for a couple hours till we were all fed, babe had nursed, and we all settled into bed. They also cleaned up everything and did the laundry!

Not for me. I think the pro's of it are awesome, but I can't get over being in the water with all the nasty stuff coming out of me lol.

The water helped so much with my back labor. I was able to get into a comfortable position to push - kneeling and using the side of the pool for support. I only pushed a few times over about 20 minutes (contractions slowed way down, but lasted longer) and had a small tear (scratch, really) that didn't require stitches. My midwives said I had the most minimal bleeding they'd ever seen so the water wasn't "disgusting."

We've had naysayers from my husband's side, but my husband and family are very supportive and encouraging of what I want. Would any of you mind sharing your story, how long you labored etc.? If not, it's totally cool.
