What is early labor

Question

This is my first baby I’m 37 + 5 days everyone talks about wart labor what is vs real labor? What should I look out for for real labor I know if you drink water and lay on your left side it doesn’t go away it’s real labor but how do you time your contractions and everything 
I’m scared I’m going to either one get sent home from the hospital cuz I’m not in labor or two not make it to the hospital or be in so much pain getting there and won’t be able to get an epidural. I’m so scared of labor

I was always told that I'd know when the time came. I went into preterm labor and it was mostly in my lower back. They stopped it and sent me home three days later. Ended up back in with contractions but not active labor a week later. When I actually had my son finally I blew off going in until I almost couldn't walk because I was not going to go to the hospital just to be sent home. Really getting sent home is much better and at least you know what's going on down there.

Getting sent home isn't the worst thing. It's better than having a baby in your kitchen lol. For me, it was obvious that labor was beginning. I had timeable contractions, but they were pretty mild. I went to the hospital once they were pretty painful. After 5 hours of laboring at home I went into triage. I was only at a 4 lol baby was born 15 hours later. Every labor is different. Maybe your water will just break and you'll know for sure.

I Didn't have contractions with my son. One morning i went to the doctor at 37 weeks and that night I went to the urgent care because I had back pain, nothing THAT painful but I was 8cm when I got there. Sometimes you just don't know. It's hard to tell sometimes.
