Weaning from purees

I need help. My twins are currently 9 1/2 months old and are being a pain to feed. We have been feeding them the purees baby food for a while now, but recently all they do is make a mess of it. I spoon feed it to them and they spit it on my face or all over themselves. They shove their hands in their mouths. They lean over their high chair and spit it on the floor. They've also started to eat table food and so I think that they are not wanting the liquid of the baby puree. Anything I can do to fix this? Can I wean them from the purees?
