Changing jobs
I’m sorry if this is all over the place, but I’m really anxious about this situation. I currently work ~30 hours a week at a daycare. I drive 30 minutes each morning to work and 30 minutes to go back home, so I have an hour commute each day. I enjoy my job, but I don’t enjoy the commute especially with winter coming. My son goes to the daycare that I work at so I get a discount which helps us save on daycare. Before I started working at the daycare I worked as a TA at an elementary school (only for a few months at the end of the school year to help cover some shifts). I wasn’t told if I would be able to work there again with this current school year so I just accepted it and found a different job.
Now however, I got a call saying they have a position available and want to interview me for it. If I got this job I would be working about the same amount of hours, get paid more, and would have less than a 5 minute commute vs an hour commute each day.
My husband says I should do the interview and accept the job if I’m offered it because he thinks I’ll be happier. I enjoyed working at the school a lot and would love to earn more to help out and drive less (I hate driving, especially in winter). If I switch jobs we would move our son to a different daycare that was closer to our home.
I want this other job, but feel SO guilty for considering leaving my current one and moving my son out of the daycare. It’s silly, but I feel as if I would be betraying my coworkers if I left, but think it’s what would be best for me in the long run. Has anyone else felt like this before? What did you end up doing? Again, I’m sorry for the rambling..
Edit to add- do I mention to my boss that I have a potential offer for a new job?
