How long do you let baby fuss?

In the middle of the night how long do you let baby cry/whine before comforting them?

Zero minutes. I practice responsive parenting, and my baby is pretty easy to soothe if I catch him just a tiny bit upset instead of really crying. At 5 months, we’re not worried about “self soothing” skills yet. We’re still a team to support his emotional regulation.

If he’s real crying I get up immediately. Sometimes he does this thing where he lets out one cry then goes back to sleep, so I wait for a second one of those. And sometimes he cries in his sleep like during a dream but it sounds weird so I’ll wait a minute with that one. If he’s fussing/whining I’ll give it 3 minutes max.

I respond immediately, but she's still in our room so if she's just whining I stroke her face and that calms her, I only pick her up if she's actually crying

If I hear her whine once, I give her a minute because usually she’ll just let out one little whimper before finding her thumb and going back to sleep, and if I intervene then she’ll wake up. If she continues to whine I go in right away. If she’s full on crying I go immediately. If she’s babbling and happy I leave her 🥰

My guy will cry out briefly sometimes. If it continues past the one cry, I’ll go in. 
If he’s just stirring or babbling, I’ll leave him (during night sleep). If that happens during a nap, I go and get him because it’s play time 😊. If he’s full on crying, I go in immediately.

I’ve been responding right away unless he is happy and babbling. We are sleep training this weekend with the Ferber method like my first! We will both be sleeping soundly soon!

Depending on the sounds she is making I’ll give it a min and then take a look when it’s just one call out or. If she’s fussy for a min or so longer I take a look and see just how awake she looks. If she’s up but rubbing her eyes and turning her head as if to fall back asleep I leave her be, she most always falls back asleep on her own and if her eyes are wide and kicking away I go in.

Usually if it wakes me up means he’s really yelling cuz I sleep with a fan on so I just get up when I hear him
