Testing after a lh surge?

I had my surge this morning but still tested high this afternoon. I know that you can have a long surge. Do you still test after your surge? And if you have a longer surge do you still ovulate 12-36 hours after the initial positive?

following because i was told to stop testing after the first positive but i see ladies that have positive for like 3 days, but i thought you ovulate after the first positive.
