How to pick the right shade of foundation?

I have never been good at this. It has been a couple years since I last bought foundation and I plan on going to target tomorrow to pick some up. I already know which one I will be getting, since someone recommended it to me. I just have no clue which shade to buy.

Clean face, moisturiser only, try a few shades on your face, check colour a couple hrs later. Go back and buy.

Usually it’s put a dab on your wrist and rub it in. If it blends in then that’s your colour.  Most places should have samples in each colour.

I choose the closest shade to my neck, usually I’m in between two, & I see which one has yellow undertones since that’s how my skin is. But like the other person said, you can go to ulta & if it doesn’t match you, you can exchange it.

I always go to ulta and have them give me the right color lol. I tell them which one I’m thinking of. Often though, what’s recommended to me doesn’t work for my skin. So I get another one
