Single mom...should I reach out to bio dad??

Ok I’m a single mom and I’m proud had my kid at a young age even when bio dad ghosted me once he found out I was pregnant. Anyways my son is 12. I dated the guy for about a year and well I got preg, I was 16 & he was 17/18. Anyways I didn’t know much at that time hardly knew his family and vice versa. So now that my son is 12 I have found out he has an allergic reaction to certain food but I found out that because he had an reaction to them. My friends where telling me I should try to reach to bio dad and get a full run of any diseases or family medical history just in case and that way I am aware of anything. I am hesitant on doing so, I don’t want him to think I want him or anything but I’m the other hand having that info could save my sons life. I don’t know what to do. Has anyone been in this situation please share and comment. Thanks.
