Would you put your child on disability if their have autism spectrum disorder?

My daughter 4 year old were diagnosed 1 year ago. Someone asked me if I applied when I said no, I didn't know that was a thing. Their were shock. 
Would you applied your kid if she/he have autism spectrum disorder? 
She is non verbal but attend speech ×3 weekly and school x2 time weekly. I recently fill out application to let her join special ed to help her learn at her pace

Absolutely. If you are receiving therapy and there is assistance available to help pay for it, I don’t see why you wouldn’t apply. Myself, my brother, and all of my nieces and nephews have some form of autism. I am also a certified autism specialist. Therapy is helpful, but expensive. In the state of Florida it ranges from $60,000-$80,000 for optimal support for someone on the spectrum. That’s ridiculous for a low, or even middle income family. 
Assistance exists for a reason. Never feel bad for receiving help. My youngest niece and nephew receive discounted daycare/pre-K (one is in a traditional setting and one is at a school for autistic children), as well as speech and in-home behavioral therapy.

Yes. My 7 year old goddaughter is autistic & she’s on disability. It’s been a great help for her & my bestie, it allows them to be able to afford things she needs, including sensory items & educational toys, games, etc.

Our son qualifies for SSI. He is autistic, in special needs classes, and is getting therapy.he is 3. We had issues applying for SSI because supposedly we don't qualify when we do.

If it gives them the opportunity for better therapy and other helpful things, absolutely. I see people saying it should be for people who can’t work but people forget that having a child with special needs also affects a parent’s ability to work and the budget for the whole household.

My son was diagnosed at 2 about a month ago, and I’ve been on the fence about this too. I read the requirements, and I’m not sure that he qualifies, but I’m not super sure. We haven’t started ABA yet, but he’s in speech therapy every week. I may look into it as costs start to accumulate.

If I was paying out of pocket, which I had to for my daughters speech (not autistic, just severe speech delay) and it was about $300 a month for 4 30 minute visits, then I would. That gets pricey and it would help with the expenses

It depends. My brother is mildly autistic and wouldn't have needed it before. Now that he is 21 he has a whole list of medical problems and can barely walk. When he was younger though it would've been unnessesary.

I wouldn’t. But I am of the opinion that far too many people are on disability. I think disability is for adults who truly cannot function at a high enough level to work.
