DI/DI Twins Fraternal or Identical ?

Question

Hello, I had my first OB appointment and it was confirmed that my babies are DI/DI twins. 
I’ve been reading up a lot about Twins, and I’ve heard conflicting information. One site said with DI/DI they have their own placenta and their own gestational sack, so they can’t be Identical due to that. On another site they said that they could be identical however the chances are low. 
I’m wondering if anyone has DI/DI that are identical or what you all think about this. Thanks. 🙂

If your twins are same gender and di/di, there is a 30% chance they could be identical. That just means the egg split very early on. I’m expecting di/di girls, so there is still a possibility they could be identical. If I was really that curious, I could confirm with a DNA test after they’re born, but not sure if I even want to bother.

Yes a third of di/di twins turn out to be identical due to the egg splitting so soon in conception allowing for both babies to have their own placenta and sac. Which is why when you get same sex di/di twins you may actually have identical. I have fraternal boys, but a friend of mine that I met on here has di/di boys 2 months younger than mine. Hers came out looking a lot alike so she had a dna test done and they are in fact identical. So if you get 2 of same sex and they come out looking alike and you really wanna know you can get their dna testing done. There is a blood test that SOME doctors use (not all insurances cover it) when they do the genetic testing for Down syndrome/trisomy 18 etc (if you opt for it) called Panorama that can give you the sex of each baby and whether they are identical or not. The test isn’t offered every where and is pretty pricey out of pocket so honestly If your doc doesn’t offer it I’d just wait to see if they look alike and do a dna test if they do. But if you opt for genetic testing all docs still do a blood test. It’s just not as detailed as the Panorama. My boys are night and day different so I’ve never had any doubts they were fraternal.

If your doctor offers the panorama blood test it will tell you the sex of each baby and if they are identical or fraternal.

I have di/di identical girls! It’s totally worth a dna test if they end up to be the same gender. We were convinced they were fraternal because of the odds, but when we had them the pediatrician was the one who convinced me to get them tested.

Di/di identicals do exist. They happen in 30% of di/di twins, I have a pair.
This is the soonest division of an egg and that is why two placentas are able to form.
