Silent reflux - medication
So my son was diagnosed Monday with severe silent reflux. He’s 9 weeks old tomorrow and has been struggling mightily to eat bottles for a long time. The doctor said it’s not related to what he’s eating because he gets breast milk (I don’t eat dairy because it makes me sick) and I fortify his bottles with Alimentum which is specifically for babies with sensitivity to milk protein.
He had us try thickening his bottles with rice cereal but that did absolutely nothing, so he put him on ranitidine. Btw - I am aware of the recalls. The pediatrician said this type has not been recalled and if it ends up being on the recall list he will switch him to something else.
Has anyone ever had their baby on ranitidine? He just started it last night. How long does it take to see a difference? It’s so miserable to try and get him to take a bottle with the reflux that I dread every feeding so I’m really looking forward to the possibility that he might get some relief and not be so uncomfortable.
