How much breast milk?

My son is 5 weeks old and take 3.5 ounces 7 times a day. He wakes up every three hours throughout the day and night to eat. How will I know when he needs more milk? Is that an appropriate amount? He was 10 lbs 11 oz at his 1 month check up.

My 3 week 4 day old boy drinks about that much (3-5 oz per feeding now + breastfeeding on demand as well). Babies won’t really over eat at this age - is what my doctor has told me. So “if he’ll take the breast or bottle, let him.” - my doctor’s words. But my boy has also gained more than 1KG since birth. 😂

You’ll know. My son never took more than 6 oz and that wasn’t every feed. Just every now and then when he was going through a growth spurt. I’d give him 4 oz bottles and if he seemed hungry still I’d give another oz.

He’ll act hungry when he needs more but he may not need more than that.  Breastfed babies typically take between 3.5 and 4.5 ounces at peak.
