Tonsillitis ?!

Question

Hey! I’ve had swollen tonsils for 6 days now, and unable to eat since then. I did a Strep swab test and blood Mono test and both came back negative. My doc said it’s a virus with no medical treatment available and should last 3-5 days, I’m on my sixth. Any tips for excruciating pain?? I’ve tried honey, in too much pain to gargle salt water, and the Motrin and Tylenol the doctor suggested are doing nothing. Please help! Thanks x

If you have tonsilitis and have white spots on your tonsils you typically need antibiotics x

Update: The first doc was WRONG 🙄 and it turns out I did have tonsillitis and should’ve been given antibiotics. I got better then got an abscess on my tonsil so I had to get 3 IVs and was finally prescribed antibiotics!! Now I’m feeling better and healthy! Thanks for all the replies.

That’s a bunch of horse shit. Even when I’ve tested negative I’m still given and antibiotic to help my throat. This last time I didn’t even let them test me, as I was paying out of pocket and recently lost insurance and I didn’t want that extra charge of lab work being done. They respected me asking them not to and still treated the back of my throat. This time I did have white spots on the back, it didn’t really hurt to swallow, no temperature so there’s really no way of knowing whether it was strep or tonsillitis. Either way, I was still given antibiotics to help take care of it.
