Need some input

My husband & i decided we were ready to ttc #2 but i have pcos & dont get periods on my own anymore. I started 1000mg of metformin in june & right off the bat it induced ovulation & i had a chemical pregnancy. My ob told me to keep on the same dose. I didnt have a cycle until that following august & it was 40 days. I had a couple transvaginal ultrasounds over the next few weeks & they couldn't find if i was ovulating. So my dose was upped to 2550mg & she told me to start clomid once my next cycle began. But im currently on cycle day 48 & AF is nowhere in sight. With the higher dose, shouldnt my cycles stay the same if not become shorter ? Im so frustrated & just ready to start clomid. Would really love some advice or shared experience stories.
