Brothers pt.39

Gabe & James became good friends through the series of jobs James gave to Gabe. Gabe gave a full report of Leila & Vance’s whereabouts during their honeymoon. James also moved into his own place & out of his parent’s house. Gabe would also give reports of his parents back to James. Mrs. Phillips was constantly cheating on Mr. Phillips & Mr. Phillips was in constant communication with Vance about advancing him in the business. James decided it was time to let Gabe go. He felt he didn’t need the extra eyes on everyone. James called Gabe into his office & handed him an envelope.

Gabe: You sure you don’t need my help anymore?

James: I know how to get a hold of you if I do.

Gabe: Alright. Actually one last thing. I think you should know that Leila’s pregnant.

James: Wow...

James sits down.

Gabe: Hey, it might not be yours.

James: Yeah, I know.

Gabe: Good luck, man.

Gabe pats James on the back & walks out.

James: Hey Gabe.

Gabe: Yeah.

James: Thanks for everything...

James thinks back to his time with Leila. He wasn’t sure of his feelings toward her. It’s been a whole month since the last time we saw her. He decided to call her.

Leila: Hello, this is Leila.

James: ...

Leila: Hello?

Vance: Who’s that?

Leila: I don’t know.

James hangs up.

Vance: Must be a scam caller. They’ll call back if it’s important.

Leila: Yeah. Babe, I think I’m gonna go for a walk.

Vance: Let me come with you.

Leila: Um it’s ok, I’ll be fine.

Vance: Ok, call me if you need anything.

Vance kisses Leila. Leila flashes a soft smile at home then the walks out.

Leila calls the number back.

James: Hello?

Leila: James?

James: Hey.

Leila: Hey, how are you? I’ve missed you.

James: Really?

Leila: Yeah, I’m glad you called.

James: Yeah?

Leila: Yeah. Why did you call & not say anything?

James: I don’t know... Just wanted to see how you’re doing. I freaked after I heard Vance’s voice. I don’t why.

Leila: Oh, I’m on a walk so he’s not around. I really wanna see you.

James: Leila, I don’t think we should see each other anymore.

Leila: What?

James: I’m sorry, I know it’s sudden. I just think think it’ll be for the best.

Leila: Oh. Can we talk about this?

James: I don’t know what talking will do.

Leila: So this is it?

James: Leila, I still care about you. But you chose my brother.

Leila: James, I didn’t have a choice.

James: Yes, you did. And you made your choice.

Leila: Well, you should know that I’m pregnant. And they might be yours.

James: They?

Leila: Twins.

James: How far along are you?

Leila: About 2 months.
