Am I in the wrong ?

I was talking to this boy and when he asked me out I said yeah, when we were together I was comparing him to my ex so I told him I wanted to break up with him. All of my friends are giving out because I should of known if I was ready for a relationship and that I hurt him, but in my mind ending it was better then still being with him and making judgements about him. I don’t know what to do we’re all fighting and it’s not making the situation any better
