What would you do?

Question

My husband and I have a 20 month old. 
My parents are FANTASTIC with her and help us SO much with babysitting, etc. 
They’ve offered for us to live with them for as long as we want RENT FREE. 
We would be able to pay off our debt ($50,000) within a year if we did this. 
Would you go live with them? 
We would have our own bathroom, my husband and I would have our own room, and our daughter would have her own room.

It honestly depends on what kind of people your parents are. Are they the kind of people who are going to emotionally manipulate you and hold this over your head? In that case there’s no way in hell. Are they the kind of people who are going to try to control your lives? Not gonna happen in that case. For me anyway. If they are healthy normal people who understand that the two of you live your lives the way you want, and they are not going to hold anything over your head, I would say give it a shot. If I had parents like that, I would take them up on the offer in a heartbeat. But if my parents offered something like that, I already know that I will most likely have hell to pay in someway or another.￼￼

My husband, 2 year old and I live with my parents! They have a large home, so much of it was going completely untouched, they offered so I could be a SAHM, we couldn’t afford to live on one income and pay a mortgage/rent and everything else that comes with having your own home. It works really well for all of us, my parents get extra help with housework, my husband does all their landscaping, snow shovelling etc. They help with our son now and then but don’t step on our shoes as the parents. I will add though that they are extremely busy like sometimes we can go days without seeing them 😂 they both still work full time by choice, always have some social gathering on weekends, they do yoga after work together etc. So if they were retired and home all day it might be a different story. Just make sure you make clear boundaries. We only eat dinner with them on Sundays, otherwise we cook and eat earlier as a family, so we have our own time and they have theirs.

Move in, focus hard on paying off all your debt. Save for 20% down on future house. Don’t make any stupid/big purchases. Take all the money you’d be spending on rent/house/utilities and get the debt paid off!! Budget yourself and you might get it paid off sooner than a year. My husband and I like to think ok so it’s a $10 purchase...but that’s half an hour at work or that’s $10 less in debt.

Definitely. We lived with my parents for 6.5 years and that allowed me to finish studying and save up to buy a house. We finally bought a house nearly 3 years ago. If you have a good enough relationship, I’d say go for it.

I would stay with them. I plan on living with my mom while I pay off my student loans even though I'll be making plenty to move out so then I can put my whole paycheck on there and pay them off real quick.
