Is it okay to drink well water?

I've been living with my dad and he has well water. It doesn't bad. I was just wondering if it's okay to drink. I've heard that it's not due to the mud that can get in it or something.

We have a well, and get it tested annually.  We we bought our house we had a whole house filter installed.  We actually have great water!

I didn't vote because not necessarily. The town we live in the water isn't safe to drink. Well where we live we have our own well and got it tested just to be safe and it came back EXTREMELY high nitrates. This can be very dangerous if pregnant. If you haven't tested your well, please do... Don't just assume it is safe because it's well water....! Because that isn't always the case..

You can get the water tested. Some wells can have harmful bacteria in them. I have a well and it has a history of bacteria forming. It gets treated but I still don't trust it and I don't drink it.

We have well water, too. I've heard they don't recommend it because of the minerals and what not filtered in the water. *shrugs*

I grew up with a well.... And it was just common sense to get it tested every once in a while.... Always came up very good but its important to do some quality control ...
