What does baby need

Question

I'm going crazy not knowing what baby's need can you help a FTM out lol. Also what are some of the things you found that was a waste of money or they didn't need? 
What type of car seat would be great for a new born but one they won't grow out of fast as well?

So the basics: 0-3 month clothes and 3-6 month clothes. They grow out of 0-3 unbelievably fast so don’t buy much. They need those baby mittens cause their nails are crazy. Hats of course and warm socks. Get onesie pajamas with the zipper. It’s easier and you won’t have to be doing 900 buttons when you’re half asleep. 
Diaper bag, diapers (don’t get size newborn) wipes. Powder lotion and shampoo. This is where you want to get the best brand possible because babies skin is so sensitive. A jacket of course (if you’re in a cold area). 
Car seat and stroller set is where you save more money. Most car seats last a while so don’t worry about that. Get a good brand that won’t break after a few months (check reviews). 
Blankets blankets blankets. Can’t have too many blankets. Burping cloths cause they throw up more than you think. Bunch of bottles. If you’re planning on something pumping then get your pump now and learn how to set it up properly so you’re ready. 
A place for baby to sleep. Is the baby going to be bedside, in their own room? Make sure the mattress has a good review and not some sketchy site. Baby detergent is recommended but not necessary. Don’t get things like bottle warmers, wipe warmers, bottle sterilizers. They’re all a waste and all things that you can do in your kitchen for free. Changing table is a waste but get a changing pad. They usually come with a baby bag sometimes. 
Can’t think of much else other than stuff like a swing and bouncer but that’s all your preference in whether you want it or not.

I found a changing table an absolute waste of £600 I always just ended up using it as storage for my little ones nappy’s and wipes I think I’ve only actually changed him on it a handful of times. If you go on Pinterest and things like that there’s loads of lists with stuff to buy

I bought a wipe warmer. I don’t think it’s a waste. My son would pee on me EVERY TIME with a cold wipe. It’s also nice for overnight. He doesn’t freak out with cold wipes like everyone says they will when they’re used to warm wipes. 
I bought a bubos bottle warmer and Dr. Browns formula pitcher and I pre make the formula. I find it easier than mixing a bottle each time. He will drink room temperature formula...again, everyone says “Don’t spoil your baby with warm milk. They won’t drink it room temperature.” My son just doesn’t like it ice cold. 
Don’t buy a lot of newborn diapers, or newborn and 0-3 month clothes.

There’s an app called Stork Card which makes a basic list for you and helps with budgeting etc! You fill out when your due date is and it tells you what it thinks you need to save each month and what you need to buy in the weeks leading up to birth!

The other comments said most of what I'd say. But one tip that works great for us is double the sheet and waterproof  bedliner. So if there is a blowout in the night you don't have to remake the bed just pull off the first two layers. Just make sure it stays flat and it is not bulky at all. Ours were very thin so this was never an issue. We used a regular changing pad (ikea) on a dresser and was very glad we didn't buy a full changing table. He didn't like the swing but the next baby might love it so I'm glad we still got it. We used a pack N play as his crib until he went to a mattress on the floor at 18 months and so glad this worked great. It was especially nice to be able to take his normal bed when we traveled.

Wipe Warner, changing table, pack and play, and bottle warmers were all a waste of money. 
You do need a dozen or so onesies both short and long sleeves with footies, more wipes and diapers than you think you'll need, lots of burp rags, and some muslin blankets for swaddling. 
My kids also loved the bouncy/vibrating seat and it was great for putting them in so I could get a shower
