Flat Nipples... when and how long to use a shield?

Having a hard time breastfeeding due to flat nipples. I am currently using a shield. When should I use it when supplementing? I have been told for him to latch on to my nipple and have no luck with it and now I am overwhelmed with when to pump, have him latch on, bottle feed, use the shield...

My sister in law used a shield for a very extended period of time, like 6 months without a problem.  I used one for weeks 2-5 with my son until his mouth was a little bit bigger and he could latch better.  Just keep trying occasionally without, you’ll know when you’re ready to wean from it ❤️ if you ever are

I am kind of in the same boat. I had to inteoduce her to a bottle at the hosporal due to her coming before 37 weeks, and I had no milk. Using a shield is the only way to get her to latch. Its a struggle at times, but at least she is off the bottle until I have to go back to work. I will pump occasionally when I feel like I am really engorged and I am feeding her on demand.
