catheter during birth?

I just read that its common to get a catheter during birth? Is this true and does it hurt?? Giving birth doesn't freak me out but a catheter does because I've heard so many horror stories.

They give you one with an epidural. I didn’t even notice it! It’s nice to not have to get up to pee 🤣

I'm a FTM, but I have had a catheter in due to some other operations I have needed and I didn't have an epi when they put mine in. If you have a good nurse it's really not bad. I would say it's just an uncomfortable kind of pain when they remove it, it's not really sore. I wouldn't worry about it 😊

You only get one if you have an epidural. I simply asked for them to wait until after the epidural had kicked in and they said no problem.

I guess thinking back on it yes, I did have one with my son. But they put it in after the epidural so I didn’t even notice it. I was exhausted after birth things are a little fuzzy, but I’m positive that I was up using the bathroom on my own the same afternoon so they must’ve taken it out very shortly after they stopped the epidural meds.

If you get an epidural you get one since you can’t get out of bed after you receive it.  If you have a non medicated birth you won’t need one.

I had a catheter after i got my epidural i can’t say i remember what it felt like going in but it was definitely a little uncomfortable coming out

I had a catheter with my daughter who was stillborn. I did an epidural and then they did the catheter. I honestly barely remember anything about it. Probably because given the situation it was the least of my concerns, but it was perfectly fine going in and out. I plan to do an epidural again and I’m not worried at all about the catheter.

I had an epidural 10mins before pushing. There was no time for a catheter for me. 
But I hear they're not uncomfortable if you have the epi.

I got one but the lady had no fucking clue what she was doing. I guided it in myself.

I had one with my first and I hated it so much. I ended up having it until the day we went home from the hospital. I went natural with my second so I didn’t have to have one then, thankfully.
