We had our 5 month check up! We had a wonderful ultrasound. We got so many great shots! But then we spoke with the doctor. She mentioned that everything looks good. The anatomy looked good and healthy.

BUT THEN SHE THREW IN THE BUT.

As it turns out an umbilical cord has 2 vessels and a vein. But, it seems this pregnancy, there is just one vessel and a vein. The doctor said everything looks fine,...... for now..... shes not concerned. But in the 3rd trimester if we start to see loss of growth or something more alarming we will have to take a deep dive into more tests. But then reassured us everything looks perfect now. Growth right on track all tests coming back normal... so fine we didnt think much of it. Didnt talk about it, didnt even think about it the rest of the day, just carried on with our busy day.

Then right before bed here I am researching and getting myself all worked up.

I have no idea how long doctors have looked at the veins of umbilical cords. Idk if its genetic. My mother in law told me all her kids were small 6 pound babies. Maybe she had 1 vessel 1 vein cords and it's just something they didnt know about bc they didnt use ultrasounds? 11 years ago, was this a thing? Did my son who's perfectly normal bright, and super healthy have this going on and it wasnt scanned for? The baby is very active, I feel it all the time. Seems perfect to me, and this may be nothing. But help a girl out, Any mommas out there have this? Did your kids have any effects? Were they fine?
