Is this just comfort nursing?

Question

I think my 3 week old has a problem with comfort nursing. During the night he wants to nurse every single hour. He falls asleep on the boob after only mins and then when I try to lay him back down he wakes immediately and starts looking for my boob again. I oblige but usually this always ends in him projectile vomiting up a TON of milk after hours of doing this and then finally dozing off after the whole ordeal. 
I’ve been feeding on demand but my mom is suggesting I limit him to feeding every two to three hours. It honestly seems like he is overeating as a way to just sleep on my boob all night long 🤦🏼‍♀️ he has me trained well because I’m barely getting to sleep any longer than 30 mins at a time. 
Should I be limiting his intake at night to only every other hour despite him waking up? He has had no issues gaining weight - he gained 13oz in 7 days. I realize this could just be a growth spurt in which I obviously will just keep on trucking but I don’t want to create these bad sleep habits either. Help!!

This is a newborn baby he does not have the brain Capacity to train you to do anything 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️... He’s not cry as a way to sleep on your boob yes it may feel that way but he’s growing. I do not feel you should be limiting his feedings but maybe try something like rocking him or walking he may just want the comfort of you... Maybe try swaddling him.

Always feed a newborn on demand especially while breastfeeding. What he’s doing is completely normal. Try a pacifier or put one of your worn shirts next to him where he sleeps.

Cluster feeding. It’s totally normal. Don’t limit his breastfeeding time. Just let him nurse on demand. You can’t create bad sleeping habits this early. Cluster feeding usually doesn’t last more than a day or two but it’s associated with a growth/leap. It’ll pass. Just keep nursing on demand

When he wakes, try putting him back to the same side he fed off last - don’t offer both sides for the feeding.  Only switch sides every 2-3hrs through the night.  
This will help him get a lower volume of milk (less likely to spit it back up) and the milk he does get will be higher in fat which digests more slowly.  He may still wake frequently - some babies just do. My first woke within 5 minutes or less if she was away from the boob, while my second and third would sleep for 4+ hours all by themselves.

My guy was doing something similar around the same age—turns out he was just gassy, not hungry, and my feeding him again so soon after a full meal was making it worse. He never really did cluster feeding so I am not sure how to distinguish it, but if yours is spitting up he sounds like he either had a trapped burp or was already full. 
Either way, I might offer a paci (sucking helps them relax and burp/toot, which is why they make rooting and sucking motions when they’re gassy—very easy to mistake for hunger). Or, try some extra burping, bicycling, and bouncing for a while before going back to feeding.
